Grameen Bank customer. The Grameen Bank is an innovation which makes small loans to villagers. It has endeavored especially to bring women into marginal local economic activities which can add income to their households. Village women are organized into groups which manage their own funds and rotate loans within the group. Ventures include chicken rearing for egg or meat sales; borrowing for a hand turned sewing machine to make clothes for sale; purchase of cell phones to start a village phone communications set-up.
